From her desk in reception, Office Manager Sarah has eyes and ears on all the happenings in the Lux Group Sydney office – not to mention working her magic on all the festive and fun social office events you might have seen on our social media channels.
We sat down with Sarah to chat all things #LuxGroupLife, and why she thinks having a healthy social life in the workplace is so important…
What’s your role?
I’m the Office Manager for the Lux Group Sydney Office.
What does a typical day include?
Every day has something slightly different, which definitely keeps me on my toes! For the most part I’m the face of the office, I’ll meet and greet any guests and ensure all our meeting room bookings run smoothly.
I also look after all of the admin requirements of the office, re-stocking supplies (both in the stationary cupboard and the kitchen) and just generally make sure everyone’s is happy and things are running smoothly. One of my favourite parts of the role though, is organizing events, from charity bake off’s to company lunches!
How often does Lux Group run ‘social’ events?
We do a quarterly meeting for all staff, called a ‘Mash Up’ which involves company updates and a themed spread. Additionally, we run ad-hoc events according to the season. For example most recently we had our fabulous Melbourne Cup lunch, a Spook-tacular Halloween Bake Off and a Future Leaders Dinner Event.
Why do you think it’s important?
Here in Sydney we have such a large office (around 150 staff!) and during the week, teams can get stuck in their routine with their own teams. I love seeing staff members from across the board, IT to Finance; Fashion Buyers to Customer Service (just to name a few!) mingle, network and relax. Work should be a fun place to come every day, and getting to know the people you’re working alongside is so important.
Every Friday in the kitchen we host social drinks, including a wine tasting by The Gourmet’s very own Sommelier, as well as some light snacks. I think at the end of the day, if you get to know someone it’s easier to work with them, and you can overall become a stronger, more productive team.
What is the response like from staff?
From my experience it’s always been super positive! Especially when there’s free food – you should see the rush to the kitchen when we have birthday cake…
What are you looking forward to coming up over the ‘Silly Season’?
I absolutely love this festive time of year! I cannot wait for our office Christmas Party – we’ve gone with a ‘Hollywood’ theme this year. I think it’ll be a fantastic opportunity for the team to kick back, relax and enjoy this time of year.
I’m also putting on my Santa hat in the lead up to the break and have a few exciting surprises planned for the staff… Stay tuned!
